How to upload your DNA Kit to GEDmatch, FamilyTreeDNA, MyHeritage, LivingDNA & Geneanet
and what you’re agreeing to before you proceed.
GEDmatch
Create an account or login at GEDmatch: https://www.gedmatch.com/login1.php
In the right hand column, under “Upload your DNA files”, click on “Generic Uploads (23andme,
FTDNA, AncestryDNA, most others)”..After clicking on “Generic Uploads (23andme, FTDNA, AncestryDNA, most others)” you’ll be
brought to the “GEDmatch raw DNA upload utility” page where you will need to fill in as much
information as you can. Click on “Browse”, select your raw data file that you downloaded
previously and then click “Upload”After you submit the file, it may take a few seconds for you to move on to the “GEDmatch®
Generic DNA file upload” screen. On this page, click the checkbox next to “I’m not a robot” to
proceed. The screen will change to “Processing Chromosomes…” and the numbers will count
up from 1 to 22 and then end on X. You will receive your kit number and it will state that the
upload is complete. Make note of the message on the lower part of the screen: “You should be
able to use one-to-one comparisons, and some other utilities on this site within a few minutes.
Batch processing usually starts at about Midnight EST and takes about 7 hours to complete –
however sometimes it can take up to 2 days to complete. After batch processing completes,
your results should be available in the ‘one-to-many’ comparison utility and other applications
listed on your GEDmatch home page.”If you’d like to opt-in to law enforcement matching (to be matched with DNA from unsolved
cases) you can choose to do so when you initially upload your DNA file or from your home screen,
after you upload, by clicking on the pencil icon next to the kit you'd like to update.
After you click on the pencil icon, croll down to "Public Profile" and then choose "Public, with Law Enforcement access".
If you see a "POLICE" badge next to your kit, you're opted-in.
To opt-out of law enforcement matching, choose either "Public, no Law Enforcement access"
"No public access" or "research" then click on "Change". On the main screen, you’ll see the
“POLICE” badge with a red “X” through the center.
FamilyTreeDNA (FTDNA)
Go to https://www.familytreedna.com/autosomal-transfer to create a new account. Fill out your
name and email address and then click on “Join Today!” Next, select your transfer type. There
are two different paths, so we’ll cover each one separately.“23andMe© / AncestryDNA™”. If you know where your file is located on your computer, you can
either drag it into the grey box in the browser or choose to browse for the file. One the file is
uploaded, click “submit”. From there you’ll be able to complete the rest of the upload process
and receive a kit number. Make sure you save this number, as you will need it to sign into your
account.“MyHeritage” you will be redirected to MyHeritage™ to select your kit for transfer:
https://www.myheritage.com/dna/transfer-to-ftdna?ftdna_user_id=5642478. Sign into your
MyHeritage account and you’ll be able to complete the rest of the upload process and receive a
kit number. Make sure you save this number, as you will need it to sign into your account.If you’d like to opt-in or opt-out of law enforcement matching (to be matched with DNA from Doe
& other unsolved cases), go to: https://www.familytreedna.com/my/privacy-sharing. Under
“Matching Preferences” if the slider is blue next to the “Law Enforcement Matching (LEM)” then
you’re opted in. To opt-out, click on the slide again and it will turn white.
MyHeritage
Log in/Create and account on MyHeritage and then go to https://www.myheritage.com/dna/upload/.
Follow the directions to upload the file you downloaded previously.
LivingDNA
Log in/Create and account on LivingDNA and then go to https://livingdna.com/free-dna-upload.

Geneanet
Log in/Create and account on Geneanet and then go to https://en.geneanet.org/dna/upload/.
Follow the directions to upload the file you downloaded previously.
